What is a AP Precalculus Score Calculator?

The AP Precalculus Score Calculator helps you estimate your AP Precalculus exam score. The exam has Section I with 40 multiple choice questions worth 62.5% of your score, and Section II with 4 free response questions worth 37.5%. Each FRQ is scored on a 0-4 point scale, totaling 16 raw points. AP Precalculus was introduced in 2023-24 as one of the newest AP exams. Score boundaries are approximate and based on historical data. Actual cutoffs vary by year.

Formula

Composite=0.625ร—MCcorrect40ร—100+0.375ร—FRQraw16ร—100Composite = 0.625 \times \frac{MC_{correct}}{40} \times 100 + 0.375 \times \frac{FRQ_{raw}}{16} \times 100

The composite percentage weights the multiple choice section (out of 40) at 62.5% and the free response section (out of 16 total points) at 37.5%.

Frequently Asked Questions

This calculator provides an estimate based on available scoring data. As AP Precalculus is a newer exam (first administered 2023-24), cutoffs may shift more than established exams. Score boundaries are approximate.
AP Precalculus covers polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric and polar functions, and functions involving parameters, vectors, and matrices.
Most colleges require a score of 3 or higher for credit. Since AP Precalculus is new, credit policies are still being established at many institutions.
AP Precalculus covers foundational concepts (functions, trigonometry, polar coordinates) that prepare students for calculus. AP Calculus AB/BC covers limits, derivatives, and integrals.
Approximately 65% or higher composite score is needed for a 5, though exact cutoffs may vary as the exam establishes more historical data.
